A collection of fifty-three glees by English composer Sir Henry Rowley Bishop (1786-1855). A founding member of the Royal Philharmonic Society, from 1811 Bishop was employed as music director at Covent Garden during which time he composed or contributed to the music of some forty productions, greatly increasing his exposure and heightening his popularity with the public.
The present collection was gifted (and presumably bound-up) by Robertson Gladstone (1805-1875) to Thomas Gladstone (1804-1889), both of whom were brothers of British Prime Minister William Gladstone.
