The first edition of German orientalist Wilhelm Ahlwardt's (1828 – 1909) study of Arabic poetry, published in celebration of the university at Greifswald's 400th jubilee. Ahlwardht would go on to produce the integral Verzeichnis der arabischen Handschriften (1887–1899), a 10 volume catalogue of Arabic manuscripts kept at the University of Berlin.
