Original publisher's green cloth with gilt device and lettering, decorated endpapers. Lightly rubbed, slight loss to foot of spine with spots of soiling in places. Bookplate of R.G.E. Sandback to FEP. Occasional ink annotation to margins. With three ALSs affixed to recto of FFEP addressed to Punch editor F. C. Burnand (1836-1917) from Mary Anne Keeley (1805-1899).
The Keeley's were a family of actors and comic performers comprised of matriarch Mary Anne (1805-1899), her husband Robert (1793-1869), and their two children. They all played to critical and commercial success, appearing in a wide variety of stage shows from the farcical through the tragic at such esteemed establishments as Covent Garden and the Theatre Royal.
