The first edition, printed at the Roman Catholic seminary of Prior Park, of a discourse intended to inspire the Catholics of Cannington with the 'miracle of the instantaneous cure' of Henry Clifford at Freiburg in 1843. Clifford, suffering from a wound which caused lameness in one foot, touched the Seamless robe of Argenteuil, one of several cloth pieces claiming to be the tunic of Christ, and was immediately healed. It would seem that the work was produced with the hope that the event would be formally considered a miracle by the Church, indeed the discourse concludes with incredulity that a Protestant gentleman present had avowed the cure as miraculous, yet the Church had as of yet not.
