An historical record of the missionary work undertaken in Scotland by the Society for Propagating Christian Knowledge, primarily concerning the state of education in the country as a whole, and the Highlands in particular. Intriguingly there is included a chapter on the Society's proceedings on the eastern seaboard of America, relating their attempts at converting members of the Indian nations, both in terms of their successes and the difficulties encountered.
