A printing of the four notebooks (constituting Vol. 2, numbers 2-6 of the Historical Series of the Bulletin of the British Museum) kept by naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-1882) expressing his opinions regarding the transmutation of species that would inform his own theories regarding natural selection. Edited and introduced by zoologist Sir Gavin de Beer (1899-1972), a further two parts would be printed, comprising addenda and corrigenda and pages excised respectively.
