The illustrated article in this issue is an extract from a letter of President of the Philosophical Society at Oxford, mathematician John Wallis (1616-1703), to chemist and director of experiments at said institution, Robert Plot (1640-1696), 'concerning two very large Stone Chimneys, with a peculiar sort of Arch-work thereon'. Also contained within is astronomer John Flamsteed's (1646-1719) 'Tide-Table', showing the true times of high-water at London Bridge for the year 1685, with directions for its use.
