MANUSCRIPT POETRY COMMONPLACE
[Early Nineteenth-century manuscript commonplace].
[s.i.].
[s.n.], [s.d.]
Quarto.
Manuscript on paper. 62pp, [78]. Handsomely bound in Regency diced calf. Marbled endpapers, A.E.G. Rubbed to spine and extremities, joints just starting. Ink inscription of Mrs J. Ram and newspaper clipping of two stanzas by Lord Byron to verso of FFEP.
An attractive and well-filled poetry commonplace, in at least two (and likely three) hands -the earliest of them apparently 'Mrs J. Ram'. Largely poetic, it includes several pieces by Lord Byron, Thomas Moore, and Rochester's 'Poem upon nothing' (this in a hand unique to only this transcription), alongside the occasional hymn or prose extract, including 'Doctor Samuel Johnson's Prayer on receiving the sacrament shortly before his death'.
