Odes of anacreon, translated into english verse with notes. In two volumes.
London. Printed for J. Carpenter, 1806. Sixth edition.
8vo. [iii]-xv, , -163, ; 146pp. With engraved portrait frontispieces of both Moore and Anacreon. Without half-title to first volume. Beautifully bound in contemporary full vellum, gilt. Blue silk endpapers, A.E.G. and gauffered. Slightly warped, a little marking, slight damp-staining to fly-leaves of Vol I, else a fine set.
Moore's first work, a translation of the 60 Anacreonata, dedicated to the Prince of Wales. The eroticism, now considered mild, must surely have contributed to the work's contemporary popularity.
