DARWIN A MEMBER
List of the members of the Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. Correct to March 1872.
[s.i.].
[s.n.], 1872.
First edition.
8vo.
24pp. Original publisher's printed paper wraps. Extremities lightly dust-soiled and foxed. Internally clean and crisp.
An apparently unrecorded alphabetical register of the fellows of the Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. The institution was established as a result of the merger in 1871 of two rival organisations, the Ethnological Society and the Anthropological Society; with polymath Sir John Lubbock, 1st Lord Avebury (1834-1913) serving as president. The list, corrected to the year following the founding of the Institute, features many of the leading anthropologists of the day, and includes such scientific luminaries as physician Henry Lonsdale (1816-1876) and, as an honorary member, the eminent naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-1882).
