A statement of the intent and proceedings of the Edinburgh Bible Society in spreading the gospel throughout the British Empire, issued as a call to action for Scottish Christians. As the author, Free Church of Scotland minister Robert Smith Candlish (1806-1873) states, 'Everything under God, will depend on the Christian people of Scotland. Let them respond with alacrity, to the call made upon them: and within a very few years, we may have it in our power to say, that Scotland has been instrumental in scattering far and wide...that unadulterated word of God'. Of interest is a note on the distribution of Bibles throughout foreign territories, notably; 265 to Australia, 100 to New Zealand, and 5576 to America. A further 3377 were supplied to emigrants, and 156 to convicts.
