The sole edition, printed for private circulation, of a catalogue of the choice library - comprised primarily of French books, with particular emphasis on fine bindings and distinguished provenance - collected by sportsman and Egyptologist George Herbert, fifth Earl of Carnarvon (1866-1923).

Primarily remembered as the financial backer of the search for, and excavation of, Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings, Carnarvon maintained the library until his death, after which it was sold en bloc to the French bookselling firm Damascène Morgand. Its stacks notably contained the celebrated copy of the Aldine Hypnerotomachia (1499) in a 'gold-powdered' binding.
