Marbled endpapers, hinges exposed, contemporary armorial bookplate of Thomas Legg to FEP, without FFEP, title-page browned, light damp-staining to upper margin throughout.
First printed in 1615 under the title The practice of quietnes, Church of Ireland Bishop of Limerick George Webbe's (b. 1581, d. in or before 1642) popular series of sermons ran to six editions before he expanded the work in 1638. Webbe enjoyed the friendship of Lord Chief Justice Sir Henry Hobart (c.1554-1625), to whom the book was dedicated.
