A handsome copy of the first edition of French mathematician Jacques Ozanam's (1649-1717) logarithmic tables. Of a Catholic family with Jewish descent, Ozanam discarded theological study on the death of his father and began offering private instruction in mathematics, a subject in which he was apparently self-taught.
