The sole edition, printed for private circulation of a selection of familial letters by British Quaker Elizabeth Hodgkin [née Howard] (1803-1836). Having married into such a prominent Quaker family, it is unsurprising that the majority of her correspondence concerns religious matters. Together with her husband, preacher John Hodgkin (1800-1875), she had three children, including historian Thomas Hodgkin (1831-1913). She died giving birth to their fifth child, who did not survive.
