The first edition in English of French magistrate Gustave de Beaumont's (1802-1866) Irlande sociale, politique et religieuse. Beaumont gathered the material for this detailed sociological treatise during two journeys to the nation - the first undertaken in 1835 in the company of historian and politician Alexis de Tocqueville, the second with his spouse in 1837.
