The author, Samuel Smiles, in addition to publishing the present volume which brought moderate fame and relative fortune to Edwards, appealed to the queen to obtain a civil-list pension of £50 a year for Edward, an endeavour backed by eminent naturalists including Richard Owen and Charles Darwin.£ 75.00 Antiquates Ref: 16493
