A coherent sammelband of seven medical pamphlets by French physician Claude Balme (1766-1850) - notable for his service under Napoleon during the Egyptian campaign (1798-1801) - including a presentation copy of the first edition of his observations on scurvy which ran rampant among the French troops forming the garrison of Alexandria during the siege of the city by the combined armies of the Turks and English in 1801.

John Yudkin (1910-1995), British physiologist and nutritionist, author of the highly influential Pure, White and Deadly (1972), the first publication to warn of the adverse health effects of increased sugar consumption.
