A selection of enigmas and charades extracted from The Masquerade; an annual publication which ran to six numbers, beginning in 1797. This lengthy collection, including 216 charades, 62 enigmas, and 47 rebusses, was, according to the preface, offered to the public in hopes that it would prove 'an interesting and cheerful companion for a Christmas fire-side, and be employed among the innocent and rational of Christmas festivities.'
