The first edition, with contemporary ownership by a graduate of Brasenose College, of Church of England clergyman Nathaniel Marshall's (bap. 1680, d. 1730) controversial defamation of nonjurors; to which prominent nonjurors and latitudinarians such as Hilkiah Bedford (1663-1724) and Arthur Ashley Sykes (c.1684-1756) responded with ire.
