A devotional manual for the proper reception of the Eucharist, commonly attributed to William Vickers (fl. 1707-1711), bound for Hon. Thomas Windsor (1752-1832), officer of the Royal Navy. Thomas Windsor’s naval career included early service in North American waters, captaincy of HMS Fox at the Battle of Ushant, shortly after, an unsuccessful engagement with the French frigate Junon off the coast of Brest on September 10 1778, where he was wounded and the ship captured. After a short imprisonment in France, Windsor was paroled and returned to London to give evidence in support of Admiral Keppel.
