x, [2], 420pp. With an engraved frontispiece. Attractively bound in contemporary richly gilt-tooled red morocco, contrasting green morocco lettering-piece, A.E.G. Lightly rubbed and discoloured, corners bumped. Marbled endpapers, early inked ownership inscriptions to head of title - later struck-through.
An elaborately bound example of the second edition in English (a different setting to the 1791 'second edition', which is actuality a reissue of the first edition of the same year) of Swiss philosopher and natural historian Johann Georg Ritter von Zimmermann's (1728-1795) first published work Über die Einsamkeit (1784-85); a monograph championing the benefits of solitude.
