The sole edition of sometime headmaster of Foyle College, Derry, Maurice C. Hime's exposition exploring the moral primacy of the female sex 'so far as regards certain of those innate desires and affections of the human constitution, that are especially conducive to the leading of a good life'. Hime states in his prefatory remarks that the gauge upon which he has based his argument is the conduct of 'men and women belonging to the so-called middle classes in Ireland, it being with these that the circumstances of my life have brought me chiefly into contact'.
