An English translation of the captions in the manuscript copy of the French original, in two hands; the first (matching that of the copyist of the above, presumably the R. French who has signed the title) completing the first page, the second completing the remaining seven pages.

A well-executed copy, with an accompanying English manuscript translation, apparently unpublished, of French artist Eugene Forest's (1808-1891) Histoire de mr de vertpre (Paris, c.1840). An early Bandes dessinee, it is often misattributed to Rodolphe Topffer, father of the modern day comic strip, because Topffer had composed an earlier story with the same eponymous hero.
Whilst some Bandes dessinee works were translated into English (notably The Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck (London, 1841, and New York, 1842), we can find no record of an English translation of this work by Forest ever being published. Somewhat strangely, neither the copyist nor the translator have included the final two leaves of the French original here.
