TUCKER, R.. A Philosophical Catechism; or, familiar introduction to some of the arts and sciences; being a synopsis of their elementary principles.

Bath. Printed for the Author, by J. and J. Keene, 1825. New edition, with improvements and additions.
8vo. vi, [2], 184pp. Uncut in original publisher's blue paper boards, printed paper lettering-piece to spine, protected by contemporary naive drab wrapper with manuscript title and ownership inscription to upper panel. Very slight shelf-wear, wrapper soiled. Later inked ownership inscription to recto of FFEP, endpapers lightly browned, else internally clean and crisp.
A remarkably well-preserved copy of a revised and expanded edition of a catechism of the practical sciences 'for the use of schools and young people' by sometime Master of Tilshead Academy, Wiltshire, R. Tucker. First printed in 1811, the book serves as a primer to numerous fields of scientific study, from astronomy and geometry, to architecture and electricity; the only exception being the curious inclusion of a chapter on Roman mythology.

Rare; COPAC locates a single copy of the first and this new edition (both at BL); OCLC adds no further.
