DRYDEN, John. The Wild Gallant: a comedy...

London. Printed by H. Hills, for H. Herringman, 1684.
Quarto. [6], 55pp, [3]. Later two-tone paper boards. Extremities a trifle marked. Leaves toned and damp-stained.
The Wild Gallant, John Dryden's (1631-1700) first play, debuted at the Theatre Royal on 5 February 1663, and then at court on 23 February. Pepys, who attended the performance commented: 'it was ill acted and the play so poor a thing as I never saw in my life almost, and so little answering the name, that from beginning to end I could not, nor can at this time, tell certainly which was the wild gallant'.
