Contemporary British (likely English) calf, blind-ruled to spine compartments and boards, with floral device to each corner of boards, with contrasting red morocco lettering-piece ('Boileaus Poetry'). A handsome copy, without doubt bound in Britain, of an early illustrated Dutch edition of the works of Nicolas Boileau- Despréaux (1636-1711), French poet, translator and critic. The majority of the contents of this volume owe at least a nod to classical authors, including 'L'Art poetique', in imitation of Horace's Ars Poetica, several satires, the first of which in imitation of Juvenal's third, and a translation of Longinus' dissertation on aesthetics, On the sublime.£ 250.00 Antiquates Ref: 19679
