An early tract by Sir James Stonhouse, 11th Baronet (1716–1795), English physician, cleric, and hospital founder, addressed to 'a patient'. Stonhouse, originally a skeptic, underwent religious conversion later in life; as such, this volume promotes a Christian response to sickness, encouraging the patient in prayer, self-examination, and commitment to God in times of suffering.
