The first edition in French of this significant work on Spanish artists compiled by Baroque painter Acisclo Antonio Palomino de Castro y Velasco (1655-1726).

First published in 1724, appearing as the third and final volume of Palomino's El museo pictorico y escala optica, the book contains the first biographies of many eminent Spanish artists, notably Diego Velázquez.
