First printed in the late eighteenth-century, and reissued, under various imprints, until the early twentieth-century, this popular series of 35 rules by which to live life are commonly attributed to politician Sir John Barnard (c.1685-1764), and are appended by advice for masters on the payment of stamp duties and on the benefits of enrolling apprentices.
