The first edition of this widely read volume by William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland (1745-1814), published after his return from the American war of Independence. The four letters within are addressed to Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle (1748-1825), whom Eden accompanied to America as a commissioner, and discuss a selection of British national and foreign policy.
