A revised edition of lexicographer and grammarian John Ash's (1724-1779) chief work, first printed in 1762, and notably the first grammar produced in England to be published in America. This enlarged edition is appended by 'A Library for Young Gentlemen and Ladies' (which amusingly contains the present text as the first work listed), that, according to a lengthy 'intended to direct some tender and valuable Parents who may possibly be at a Loss what Books to buy for their Children; and likewise to gratify some young People of an inquisitive and ingenious Disposition, who have a keen Taste for Books, but for want of Experience often purchase Trash.'
