Observations on the conversion and apostleship of St. paul. In a letter to Gilbert West, Esq.
London. Printed for R. Dodsley, 1747.
8vo. , 110pp. With a half-title. Disbound, all edges red. Very occasional light spotting, stab-stitch holes to gutter.
The first of George Lyttelton, Baron Lyttelton's (1709-1773) works to be published following the public pronouncement of his devotion to the Christian faith. An evangelising exploration of the remarkable conversion of St. Paul, produced under the influence of Lyttelton's cousin the poet and cleric Gilbert West, a work to which Dr. Johnson conceded, 'infidelity has never been able to fabricate a specious answer'.
