The first edition of a pamphlet championing epistemological rationalism as the primary method for comprehending Christian doctrine written by Thomas Chubb (1679-1747), a disciple of theologian and philosopher Samuel Clarke (1675-1729) who veered from Arianism to a form of modified deism. Some 'reflections' upon 'moral and positive duty' were added, suggested by the posthumous publication of Clarke's An Exposition of the Church-Catechism (1729).
