[WALKS WITH MAMMA]. Walks with mamma; or, stories in words of one syllable. With engravings.

London. Grant and Griffith, successors to John Harris, Corner of St. Paul's Chuchyard, [s.d., c.1843-50s]
12mo. 48pp. With eight large, hand-coloured vignette woodcuts. Stab stitched within original publisher's stiff orange paper wrappers. With a small contemporary printed label 'Sold by Forbes & Knibb, Booksellers, Southampton' to upper wrapper at foot. Slightly rubbed, short tears at head and foot of spine.
An unrecorded edition of a remarkable production of seven stories - all concerning animals, some of which more exotic than others - specifically composed, with a younger audience in mind, in 'words of one syllable'. Whilst the occasional word breaks this convention, the vast majority of these absorbing juvenile tales do indeed conform to this tight restriction.

All editions contain, as does this example, eight hand-coloured vignette woodcuts. This edition published by Grant and Griffith, self-proclaimed 'successors to John Harris' of a work first published by the latter in 1824, reprinted in 1829 in this larger format and incorporated into a collected edition c.1839.

Unrecorded in the usual databases.
