The first edition of Church of England clergyman John Balguy's (1686-1748) Balguy's theological dissertation, in which he argues that the Lord's first act of creation was the formation of morally correct behaviour (contemporary respondents suggested both benevolence and wisdom as alternatives). In the sequel, An Essay on Redemption (1741), Balguy explained the doctrine of the atonement.
