An entirely unrecorded Maltese general auction catalogue listing some 628 lots, consisting of 'different household furniture, wool and silk wear, linen, wines, books, etc...and a carriage with tools', sold by Vincenzo Portelli of Birgu, the fortified 'Citta Vittoriosa' on the Southern side of the harbour from Valetta, in December 1834.
Amongst the 90 lots of books offered were 12 lots of unnamed novels ('Vari Romanzi'), several works of Italian and classical history and literature, theology and (presumably a primer of) Newtonian science ('597. Jacquet e Newton, Istituzioni, 2 vol'). As is still customary, the final lot of the sale, 628, was a box lot of wormed volumes: 'Una Cassa contenente diversi Libri tarlati'.
