An influential theologian, and founding member of the Boston Athenaeum, Buckminster authored numerous sermons, collected and posthumously published in 1814, and in extended form in 1839. Unsurprisingly, his library (the contents of which was primarily purchased in Europe) contained numerous editions of the Bible as well as commentaries, notably Biblia Sacra Polyglotta Londinensia (London, Walton, 1657) 'A fine copy, containing the famous dedication to Charles II. the very existence of which has been denied by biographers', which he is known to have purchased for the princely sum of £100.
