The first edition of an anonymous history charting the rise and progress of British Army regiments throughout the conflicts of the sixteenth- and seventeenth-centuries, particularly in regard to their involvement in the Eighty Years War (1568-1648) and subsequent Anglo-Dutch hostilities. The latter half the text is devoted solely to the formation and activities of the Scots Brigade, an infantry brigade that served in the army of the Dutch Republic and were instrumental in the Revolution of 1688 and the suppression of the Jacobite Risings before being amalgamated into the Dutch line regiments in 1782.
