[Edinburgh?].
[s.n.], [1840?].
First offprint edition.
Quarto.
lxxxvii pp, [1]. Uncut in twentieth century half-calf, marbled paper boards, lettered in gilt. Original publisher' dark green wrappers bound in. A trifle rubbed. Wrappers worn.
A reprinting of various civil and criminal judicial and legislative acts and statutes passed by the Provincial Assembly of Orkney and Zetland in the early seventeenth century; notably including the enactments of the Court of Patrick Earl of Orkney from 1602 to 1604, the earliest extant record of Lawting proceedings.
These 'Country Acts' were initially published in the appendix of George Barry's History of Orkney (1805), apparently from an inaccurate transcript. Here they are printed from the record maintained by the Sheriff Court of Orkney and Zetland and in this form were first published in the Miscellany of the Maitland Club (Vol. II, 1840).
