The, apparently unrecorded, presumed first edition of a biography of Hugh Mackay (d. 1692), commander-in-chief of the forces in Scotland during 1689 and 1690, Colonel Commandant of the Scottish Brigade in the service of the States General, and sometime Privy Counsellor.

Andrew Jervise (1820-1878), Scottish compositor and antiquary, author of numerous histories and memoirs, including, but not limited to; Sketches of the History and Traditions of Glenesk (1852), History and Traditions of the Land of the Lindsays (1853), and Memorials of Angus and the Mearns (1861).

The usual databases provide records for the revised edition of 1836 (with the addition of a memoir of the author) and the new edition of 1842 only.
