THE MISSING SHEEP

[BRICKLEY]. Brickley's new primer. Adorned with beautiful cuts. Being A Present for my dear Child.

London. Printed for T. Hughes, Broadway, Blackfriars, and T. Coldwell, 50, Capel-S. Dublin. [s.d., c. 1825?]
32mo?. [2], 3-15pp, [1]. With three crude woodcut illustrations (of a cat, a sheep, and a goose), pagination includes printed wrappers which were evidently designed as such. Sewn within original publisher buff paper wrappers, with a further crude woodcut captioned 'The Market Girl' to lower wrapper. A trifle dusty, upper wrapper (in effect the title leaf) shaved at foot.
A rare chap-book primer, published in London and Dublin, which features, as often with such productions, both 'capital' and 'small' alphabets, a list of vowels, the numbers 0-9, and lists of phonetic sounds and short words - including only two of the three woodcuts vignettes which feature within the text (the sheep is egregiously omitted!)

The only example of this edition which we can trace in COPAC or OCLC is that at NLS, which is tentatively dated to 1825.
