Dimensions 600 x 420 mm.. Complete. 42 printed wooden pieces, housed in original publisher's wooden box with engraved pictorial title label to lid. Some loss to box at edges, working loose at joints, lettering-piece stained and discoloured, with early ink annotation suggesting this was acquired 'at Mrs Denny's Sale'. Slight loss to two blank areas of two edge pieces.
A remarkable survival, in the original wooden box with engraved title label, of the original 1788 edition of this early educational jigsaw, produced to entertain as well as instruct young audiences in the dates, portraits, 'remarkable events' and 'eminent persons' of each English monarch's reign.

Although unrecorded (except for twentieth-century facsimiles) in OCLC and COPAC, there is examples known at the National Trust Museum of Childhood, and the V&A.
