The sole edition of colonial governor and politician Thomas Pownall's (1722-1805) pamphlet on the East India Company, in which he calls for the crown to be given administrative responsibility for Bengal and the other Mughal provinces under British rule. Included are significant comparisons between the charter of the East India Company and that of the Virginia Company 'granted in 1611-12', and further reference to the 'Rhode Island charter' and the situation for the 'settlers in the colony of Connecticut'.
