AN OFFICER [THURLOW, Edward Thurlow, Baron]. A refutation of the letter to an Honble. Brigadier-General, Commander of His Majesty's Forces in Canada.

London. Printed for R. Stevens, 1760. Third edition.
8vo. 40pp. Modern buff paper boards, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece to spine. A clean and crisp copy.
The third of four editions to appear within a year of a pamphlet, conjecturally attributed to Edward Thurlow, first Baron Thurlow (1731-1806), replying to charges of incompetence levelled against General George Townshend (1724- 1807) for his conduct whilst commanding British forces during the campaigns in Canada. Townshend, brigadier under Major-General James Wolfe, returned triumphant following the surrender of Quebec but was however tainted by accusations that he had endeavoured to embellish his significance in the battle in which Wolfe had been killed heroically on the verge of victory.
