[40]ff, 1208 col. [i.e. 1108 col], [1]f, 15pp, [1]. Early, perhaps seventeenth century tooled limp vellum, contrasting morocco lettering-piece, yapp edges. A trifle marked, slightly rubbed; occasional marginal paper flaws, touching a single character of O4r, without loss of sense. Manuscript shelf-marks and later armorial bookplate of the Gaddesden library to FFEP (and therefore perhaps previously in the library of English courtier, diplomat, and alchemist Thomas Henshaw (1618-1700), whose books had descended there via his Halsey relatives).

A choice copy of the first edition, printed in Braga, of what is commonly considered the second Portuguese-Latin dictionary, by Agostinho Barbosa (1589-1649), Portuguese lexicographer, jurist and Roman Catholic Bishop.
Composed when he was in his early twenties, the Dictionarium lusitanicolatinum expands upon the earliest known Portuguese dictionary, by Cardoso (Dictionarium ex Lusitanicum in Latinum Sermonem, Coimbra, 1569), and unsurprisingly includes a reference to the term Conquistador.
Rare; outside of continental Europe, OCLC locates copies at just four locations: BL, Chicago, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Wellcome; COPAC adds no further. We could locate no recent auction records relating to any copy of this work.
