Contemporary blind-ruled sheep. Extremities worn, worm-tracks/holes to upper board and split lower joint, loss to foot of spine, corners bumped. Hinges exposed, armorial bookplate of William Wollascott to FEP, loss to upper corners of leaves a3 and a4, later naive paper repair to gutter of leaf F4, light damp-staining to head of text-block, loss to REP.
The first edition of Matthew Carter's treatise on honor and its particular divisions that attacks the esoteric symbolism that did so much to discredit Renaissance heraldic writers.
