William Henry (1765-1837), later William IV, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. At thirteen he was sent into the Royal Navy, serving in British North America and the Caribbean. In 1798 he was made an admiral, but the rank was purely nominal. Despite repeated petitions, he was never given a command throughout the Napoleonic Wars. In 1811, he was appointed to the honorary position of Admiral of the Fleet. He would later come to be dubbed the 'sailor king'.
