Correspondence between scrutator and respondens respecting bridewell-hospital, as it appeared in the times news-paper, in the month of october, 1814.
London.
Printed by H. Bryer, Bridewell-Hospital, 1814.
First edition.
8vo.
32pp. Modern navy wrappers. Lightly browned. Inked inscription to head of title page: 'Ex dono Respondentis'.
An apparently unrecorded pamphlet comprised of a series of contentious letters originally submitted to the Times by two correspondents, 'Scrutator' and 'Respondens', concerning conditions at Bridewell Hospital. The former believes that the governors of the hospital have done little in recent years to reform the practices of the institution; the latter disagrees, citing the survey of 1798 (see item 6), and the emphasising the comparatively high level of instruction provided to apprentices.
