Two early eighteenth century editions of popular facetious French stories by Verboquet le Genereux and his 'disciples'. Verboquet is widely considered to be a pseudonym, as indeed are the names of his followers; regardless, they are all merely plagiarists, retelling and occasionally reworking comic tales originating from sixteenth century authors, in particular, Bonaventure Des Periers.

John Fowles (1926-2005), English novelist, notable works include The Magus (1965) and The French Lieutenant's Woman (1969).
